The Vikings of Bjornstad is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, based in the extended San Francisco Bay Area, covering California from Ft. Bragg to the North, Dublin
to the South and Stockton to the East. We have networked members in Arizona and Nevada and exchange information about the Viking Age with other historians and reenactors
in Europe and around the world.
Our web site is visited over a half-million times a year - by those who
are interested in learning about the Viking Age.
Our goal is to provide information about that little known period of history, the Viking Age. Far different from what is shown on
screens large and small, the period of 793 CE through 1066 CE was filled with
exploratory voyages, beautiful artistry,
exquisite ships and cross cultural trading that opened up the world. The
Vikings were not barbarians; far from it! They were farmers, fishermen, sailors, ship builders, weavers, hunters, traders, merchants…and explorers. They had laws, an early form of
government by the governed and were far ahead of their times in
supporting women’s rights. Hundreds of the words used in English daily
come to us directly from Old Norse, their language.
You can learn more about the Vikings by reading the information on this website, but more importantly, you can help us get the word out, and
help us preserve the legacy of the Vikings by making a financial contribution!
