The History Bug
When I was 7 or 8, I watched a grainy old copy of Kirk Douglas's 1958 historical epic film,
The Vikings. Soon after, the first chapter book I ever read was a children's collection of Norse myths. And from then on, I had the history bug, with
the Viking Age as a particular fascination.
Fast forward to my first year in high school, and my father, a history teacher, dragged me along to a renaissance faire. While wandering around, I was approached by Roman Legionary reenactors who, upon seeing I had nothing better to do, invited me to join up and run with Caesar.
And many years after that, us Legionaries run into the Vikings Of Bjornstad at a celtic fair in the Bay Area, and, still being bitten by the Viking bug, I joined Bjornstad for yet more reenacting.
